Common questions

Questions about this calculation

How do I calculate a discount?

Multiply the original price by the discount rate divided by 100 to find the savings, then subtract the savings from the original price.

What is 20% off 200?

The savings are 40 and the final price is 160.

Can a discount be more than 100%?

This calculator limits discounts to 100% because a larger ordinary retail discount would produce a negative price.

Are two discounts added together?

Usually no. Successive discounts apply one after another, so 20% off followed by 10% off is not the same as 30% off.

Does the calculator include tax?

No. It calculates the discount only. Use the Tax Calculator separately if tax must be added.
